In short

What does ProEMS do for exams and report cards?

ProEMS takes an exam from set-up to report card: you define the exams, papers and grade bands, teachers enter and lock the marks, and ProEMS produces totals, grades, ranks, percentiles and report card PDFs.

It works for schools and colleges. Schools lean on grade bands and co-scholastic areas; colleges also get a university Excel export with theory, sessional and total marks for every subject.

Exams, mark entry and results come with the Gold plan, as the pricing page shows.

  • Grade bands you define by percentage range, used for marks and co-scholastic areas
  • Mark entry by paper, with absentees, reasons and remarks, then a lock
  • Rank and percentile for every class section, with a Rank PDF
  • Report card PDFs for one student or the whole class in one go

Who uses it?

  • Teachers

Add co-scholastic and discipline grades, remarks, attendance and each student's result for their class.

  • The office

Sets up exam names, grade bands, co-scholastic areas and every paper's date, timing and marks.

  • Principals

Check ranks and the result graph and print report cards for any class.

  • Students

See their results on the web and in the app once the class's results are switched on.

What it does

What can you set up and print for an exam?

Everything a term's exams need, from the first paper's date to the last report card. These are the pieces schools rely on.

  • Papers in a few clicks

Set each paper's date, time, duration, maximum and pass marks, internal or external. Create papers for every subject at once, or clone a whole exam as drafts.

  • Grade bands

Define grades such as A1 to E with a percentage range for each, and choose per exam whether grades print on the report card.

  • Co-scholastic and discipline

Name your co-scholastic areas and discipline items, then give every student a grade in each, term by term.

  • Mark entry with a lock

Teachers enter marks or mark a student not attended with a reason, add remarks, then lock the paper so nothing changes by accident.

  • Rank and percentile

Students are ranked by total marks within the class section. The Rank PDF and Excel export add a percentile each, and tied students share one.

  • Result graph

See how many students fall in each ten-percent band and how many passed or failed, class by class.

  • Report card PDFs

Marks by exam and subject, grades, co-scholastic grades, attendance, remarks and the result, under your logo, for one student or the class.

  • Excel and university export

Export a class's results to Excel. Colleges also get a university layout with theory, sessional and total marks per subject.

  • From Platinum

    Student performance page

Open a performance page from a student's profile to see their details beside every progress note teachers have rated.

How it works

How does an exam run from set-up to report card?

In six steps across the term. The first happens once a year; the rest repeat for every exam.

  1. 1

    Set the rules

In the exam settings, add exam names, the grade bands with their percentage ranges, co-scholastic areas, discipline items and result statuses.
  2. 2

    Schedule the papers

Create the papers for a class with dates, times and marks. ProEMS won't let two papers overlap for the same class section on the same day.
  3. 3

    Enter and lock marks

Subject teachers fill in marks or record absentees with a reason, then lock the paper.
  4. 4

    Finish the class's part

Class teachers add co-scholastic and discipline grades, remarks, attendance days and each student's result status.
  5. 5

    Check ranks and the graph

Open the class's result to see ranks and the result graph, and export the Rank PDF or Excel with percentiles.
  6. 6

    Print and release

Print report cards for the whole class in one go, then switch results on for the class section when you're ready for students to see them.

Can ProEMS make CBSE report cards?

ProEMS builds report cards from the exams, subjects, grade bands and co-scholastic areas you set up, so a CBSE school can enter its own terms, A1 to E grades and co-scholastic areas and print from them.

The layout is ProEMS's own, with your logo, so bring your current report card to the demo and compare it line by line. Our CBSE report card format and the guide to CBSE assessment and report cards set out what the board asks schools to show. The CBSE schools page has the rest.

What does ProEMS offer ICSE and ISC schools?

ICSE and ISC schools get the Council List, with a Council ID column, and the nominal roll from student records, alongside the same exams, grading and report cards every school uses.

Both come with student records on Silver; see the student records and ICSE and ISC schools pages. The Council List format page walks through the columns.

How are rank and percentile worked out?

Rank orders students by total marks within their class section, and percentile is the share of the class that scored below the student.

In a class of 40, the topper has 39 students below them, so their percentile is 97.50. Two students tied on 89.60% share a percentile of 87.50 but keep consecutive ranks, 4 and 5. Our CBSE grade calculator helps with the grades themselves.

When do students see their results?

Students see results once you switch results on for their class section, and then they see them on the web and in the app. Parents see their child's results in the parent login on the web.

Until then, teachers can finish marks and remarks without students seeing half a result. Once results are on, each student's profile also has a results tab listing every paper they've sat, with marks, percentage and pass or fail, so you can follow a student from one exam to the next.

Good to know

What should you check before running exams on ProEMS?

Four points worth knowing before the first exam of the year.

One grade scale for the institution
Grade bands are set once for the whole institution. If junior and senior classes grade differently, plan it with us in the demo.
Rank stays off the report card
Rank appears on the result screen, and rank and percentile in the Rank PDF. The report card itself doesn't print them.
A lock protects, permissions decide
Anyone who can reach mark entry can also lift the lock on a paper, so set your role permissions with care.
Our layout, your content
The report card layout is ProEMS's own. Check it against your current format in the demo before you commit.

FAQ

Questions about exams.

Short answers to what schools and colleges ask us most. Anything else, bring it to the demo.

Which plan includes exams and report cards?
The Gold plan includes exam set-up, mark entry with locking, results, rank and percentile, the result graph and report card PDFs. The student performance page is in the Platinum plan.
Can we print report cards for a whole class at once?
Yes. Report cards print as PDFs for one student or for the whole class in one go, with marks, grades, co-scholastic grades, attendance, remarks and the result.
What happens when a student misses a paper?
The teacher marks the student as not attended and gives a reason instead of entering marks, so the absence is on record against that paper.
Can marks be changed after they're locked?
Only after the lock is lifted. Locked marks are read-only on the mark entry screen, and anyone with access to mark entry can lift the lock, so control that access through role permissions.
Does ProEMS work for colleges with university exams?
Yes. Colleges get an Excel export in a university layout, with theory, sessional and total marks for each subject and rows for maximum and passing marks.
